WHANGAMOMONA NOTES.

(From Our Own Correspondent.)

We have had warm steady rain this lust few days, and though the roads wdl suffer, the grass will be immensely , benefited. There appears to be abundance of feed everywhere now. Mr. J. McCluggago, Liberal candidate for Stratford, addressed raootngs at Wliaugamomomi, Kohuratahi, and Tahora last week, and at each place lie received a most attentive nearing. There were large audiences at each meeting. On Thursday evening a public meeting was called here to discuss the question of procuring the services >f a medical practitioner for the district. There was a good attendance, and after considerable discussion it was resolved to offer a substantial oonus to a doctor for a fixed .period, at the end of which the settlers and railway men were to be approached with a view to raising, by means of monthly or annual subscription, a fund sufficient to retain the services ,ff the doctor hove. The money at present held by the trustees will be sufficient to provide tho bonus foi ihe first period. In a district of some 1.600,,p0pp1e, jt is surprising that a doctor has not started practice here icfore.- At present Stratford is the nearest place where medical services :an bo obtained. The same evening a meeting was held to form a Domain Board, with tho object of turning the present Recreation Reserve (an unsightly padlock of logs and stumps) a sports ground, tepnis courts, etc. The following gentlemen were elected members of the Board: —Messrs. 1. Bradley, F. Court, A. Klee, T. Aylward, and W. A. McCutchan. The Tennis Club expects to have bli6 courts in playing _ order before Christmas. The game will be appreciated here. Up till now wo have had no summer pastime at all. _ . The public schools examinations take place in this district during the oresent week. Tho Stratford Salvation Army held a meeting here last week. It was quite novel to Whanga. Our next venture here will bo to mn an autumn show. 1 eni sure Mi at, if taken up by the the Idea will prove a good one. A little -'nth usi asm, and we wfl have a show equal in equality, at any rate, to ■»ny district show of our size in the Dominion.
