KOHURATAHI NOTES.

Political matters are getting very keen here. Mr. Joseph lUcCluggage, tlio Liberal candidate for the toirutford scat, addressed the largest political mooring ever held in tlio Jvohuratahi Hall on Friday evening, October 12fch. He dealt largely with all the political questions of the day, and surprised both his old friends and political opponents by his very able and lucid address. His views on the land question were the host and clearest ever heard in the district. He wont fully into tlio taxation proposals of the present Government, and proved by figures that the dead weight of national debt of New Zealand was under nine million pounds; the balance of loans were all interestbearing. The candidate dealt largely with Sir Joseph “Ward’s proposed humanitarian legislation, and said ho strongly supported widows left with voung children getting a State pension, irrespective of age, and would also support the State helping men and women with large families depending on them, by giving them a small daily wage for an income. Mr. McOluggage was loudly applauded throughout his address. At the conclusion Mr. C. McLoughlan moved and Mr. J. May seconded, a vote of thanks to him for his very able address, and confidence in him as being a fit and proper person ip represent us in Parliament; and also a vote of confidence in the Ward Government. On the motion being put it was carried unanimously. A vote of thanks to the chairman (Mr. W. A. McCutchan) concluded the most enthusiastic political meeting ever hold hero.
