(Per Press Association.) Dunedin, August 31. Fire destroyed a five-roomed house owned by Mr Richardson at St. Kilda, occupied by Mr Grimman. The house was insured in the State office for £IOO, and the furniture in the same office for £l5O. Very little furniture was saved. Mrs Grimman went into the house next door, leaving a spirit lamp alight in the kitchen. A few minutes afterwards the house was discovered to bo on fire. Eketahuna, September 1. Fire last night destroyed a big wooden building owned by Mr H. Aulin and occupied by the Eketahuna Farmers’ Co-Operative Association as a general store. The flames had a big hold when discovered and it was only possible to save the books and papers from the office. The contents of the adjoining buildings, owned by Dorey, land agent, and occupied by Him and Hill, blacksmith, were got out. The fire brigade, with the chemical engine, bucket brigade and hand chemical extinguishers directed their efforts towards saving Dorey’s. There was only some eighteen inches between the wooden walls and it is marvellous that the efforts were successful. The E.F.C.A. stock was insured in the South British office for £2OO and the building for £-100.
