GERMANY IN THE PACIFIC.
PROPOSED ANNEXATION OF TAHITI. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, August 17. Mr J. L. Young, who has been acting as British Consul at Papeete, arrived by the Maitai from Tahiti. When informed of the suggestion that Germany should occupy the Tahit.au Group he said he was not surprised. At the same time the anxiety felt in Australia and New Zealand was natural and was justified. He did not think Franco would be agreeable to r.ich an idea and certainly the French in Tahiti would not he favourable. The group was fairly prosperous and as well administered as it ever had been under the French flag.
