o H’or Press Association.) Wellington, August 17. A (ire at Petone early this morning destroyed three seven-roomed houses, two owned by George Lee and one by William Lee. Each house was insured for £275, one in the South British office and the others in the Atlas office. The fire started in the house occupied by W. Leo, whose furniture was insured for £l5O in the South British office, and was totally destroyed. Tiro fire then spread to the house next door and a third house, occupied by Bowator, went next, but in this case most of the furniture, which was insured for £IOO in the South British office, was saved. The brigade was greatly handicapped in its work as the nearest fire-plug was a quarter of a mile away.
