CHAMBER OF COMMERCE.

MONTHLY MELTING. The monthly meeting of the Chamber of Commerce was hold last night. Present: Messrs. Masters (in the chair), Cargill, Munro, James, Kirkwood, and Hewitt. Messrs.» Young and McMillan forwarded apologies for absence. It was decided to forward a copy of the Chamher’s rules for the guidance of the newly-formed Chamber at To Awamutu. Mr. P. Thomson was elected a member of the Chamber. The Societal y hi ought up the matter of subscriptions, mentioning that a good many were unpaid. On the motion of Mr. Kirkwood it was decided to communicate with the authorities regarding a postal service between Whangamornona to Manga roa. The Gisborne...Chamber asked for approval of its motion affirming the desirability of having land agents registered and licensed.—Mr. Kirkwood moved that! the Chamber affirm the desirability of licensing land agents with a provision for a fidelity guarantee.—Mr. James seconded. He thought the license fee was a mete nothing, and was useless without a fidelity bond.—Mr. Richards could not see why one particular business should be held up as necessitating a bond.—Mr. Masters said there Could be no doubt that in the Dominion there were a lai;ge number of unscrupulous agents.—Mr. Richards said that in many cases the agent was] a weakling, and \\‘as swayed by 'an' unscrupulous vendor. He was in favour of a Magistrate granting licenses in preference to a local body.—-Mr. Kirkwood s?aid he had no objection to it. being added to his motion that’ for preference licenses lie issued by a Magistrate,—The motion as amended was carried.—lt was decided to forward the resolution to the member for the district.
