SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The monthly meeting of the Stratford School Committee was add last evening, there being present: Messrs (J. D. ©ole (chair), Of. Smart, A Stewart, McMahon, and P. Skoglund. 'J ho Secretary of the Stratford Jinxing Association wrote asking for permission to use the school gymnasium on Tuesday nights.—C!ranted on usual conditions. The Secretary of the Education Board wrote:—‘T regret to think we should be guilty of holding on to your money so long, and i beg to notify you taat a cheque for £B-1 Ids 8d has been paid to your account' with the Bank to-day rgMst July), being the School Committee’s donation or £B3 is and the departmental subsidy of £3B 13s 8d and £23 Is.” It was decided to ask Mr. S. Clark to accept a seat on the committee in place or Mr. I). McMillan (resigned). Messrs. Smait and Stewart wore appointed the visiting committee for Hie mouth. The Headmaster (Mr. F. Tyrcr) submitted the following report:— “The school vc-opened witn 397 present. Measles are still prevalent, hut are now practically Confined to the little children. iosterday 117 children were absent from our infant room, but in all other classes from 50 to 80 per cent, of the children were at school; and in Standard JIT., IV., V., and VI. there are enough children in attendance to make it wise, in my opinion, to carry on the school. Tne glass house is now finished, and Mr. .Morgan gave his first lesson on conservatory work last Wednesday. The house is essential to the proper carrying out of a rural course of instruction, and I think the committee is to lie congratulated on its erection —built, as it was, without the aid of either Board or Department. Candidates for scholarship and other annual examinations have to make their nominations at the end of This month. I am glad to say that the school will be represented by a few smart pupils this year; indeed, on the whole, the woi k of the Senior High School is now hotter. than at any previous time in flic school’s history, and good work is being done in the whole of the secondary drpai tmont.”-—ln adopting the report, members expressed pleasure at its satisfactory tone.
