H. M. S. CHALLENGER (Per Press Association.) Wellington, August M. The warship Ciiallenger arrived at Wellington from Auckland this morning. A MILITARY COURT. Palmerston N., August 14. A military court, consisting ol Colonel Pringle and Captains White and Powles, heard evidence this evening regarding the accident to St aft Sergeant-Ala jor Browning. During the military camp he was struck on the chin by a football after a match at the camp, and has been in the hospital ever since. The Sergeant-Major was not a participant in the match. COOKS’ AND WATTERS’ DISPUTE. Palmerston N., August 11. The Conciliation Commission sits .here to-morrow under Alriiallcy in the cooks’ and waiters’ dispute, when the Palmerston and Wanganui hotelkeepers and others will be represented. Gisborne, Hastings and Napier employers have already' arrived at an agreement with tlio employees, and Mr Carey, secretary of tlio union, considers there is every probability of the Wanganui and Palmerston employers failing into line.
