Mr Leadens, Canadian IrootmasterGonoral, met Mr. I'ourassa, the French-Canadian leader, at St. Hyacinth, during the first big political gathering of' the campaign. Mr. Lera ieux was accused by Mr. Bourassa of being an office seeker, and having sought the Speakership in the House of Commons. A disturbance promptly broke out, and the platform was partly destroyed. Mr. Lornicux admitted the allegation with regard to the Speakership, but denied the other charges, and in his turn accused Sir Wilfrid Laurior of having betrayed the Frencii-Canadians by his naval policy.
