GOVERNMENT ORCHARDS.

THROWN OPEN TO SETTLERS. (Per Press Association.) Auckland, July 28. The first ton of the orchards prepared and planted by the Department of Agriculture at Wacrenga are now being offered for selection. This marks an important phase in the development of the scheme ' for providing ready-made orchards for settlers desirous of taking Jo fruit culture. The orchards will be obtainable on the optional system of tenure. The ten. orchards vary from 21 acres to 48 acres’in extent. The time for* receiving applications for these orchards closed to-day. As was expected, the orchards were eagerly sought after, over 70 applications being received. 1 A few more may come bv cost. .
