MOKAU LANDS.
A CHALLENGE TO MR MASSEY. (Per Press Association.) Wellington, July 23. Mr Charles A. Loughnan, solicitor for the Mokau Coal and Estates Company, in a further letter to the Manawatu Daily Times, with reference to his challenge of £IOO for fubstar.tiation of Mr Massey’s statements re the Mokau and Mr McNab, proposes that a jury of twelve drawn Loin the common jury list, and presided over by the Mayor of Palmerston, should bo set up to decide the truth of Mr Massey’s statements. Should one of the series of 'Mr Massey’s 'tatemenfs which Mr Loughnan formulated be declared by the jury to bo true, Mr Loughnan agrees that a cheque for £IOO, which lie has deposited with the editor of the Manawatu Daily Times, be handed to the Palmerston North Hospital, while lie will pay .'ill costs of the jury, witnesses, etc., if one charge of Mr Massey’s is pr oved true, while the acceptor of ibo challenge must pay these charges if Mr - Longiinan wins; tire trial to are place in Palmerston, Mr Loughnan conducting 1 is own case and permitting counsel for acceptor.
