Annual Prize-Giving
The annual prize-giving ceremony of the Southland Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs Association was held yesterday and children from city schools were present. Mr W. Bell, who represented the Education Board, expressed pleasure at the enthusiasm shown by city school children. Of the 220 projects undertaken in city schools, 193 had been completed, he said. ,i
Mr H. D. Prichard, inspector of schools, said that he was pleased to see that 90 per cent, of the projects had been completed by city school children. He advised the children to make every endeavour to complete their projects. The work of the Boys’ and Girls’ Clubs was of great value because it was an important part of nature study work in the schools.
The Mayor (Mr A. Wachner) also spoke and presented the certificates to the children.
Other speakers were Messrs W. J. Thomas, Mr L. J. Broomfield, headmaster of the Intermediate School, Mr T. Matthews, the organizer, the president of the association, Mr J. C. Gardner, and Mr T. Whitwell, inspector of schools.
