140,000 CANADIANS NOW IN BRITAIN

(Rec. 8.50 p.m.) OTTAWA, June 16. The Minister of Defence, Mr J. L. Ralston, in a speech, said Canada’s war expenditure was now three times the total expended in the whole of last war and the demobilization period.Canada had 140,000 troops in Britain, he said, and they had been a factor in deterring the invasion. Now they were calling for action and their time would come. The Canadian total casualties in the three services was 5600, compared with 95,000 at this time in the last war. More than 450,000 young men volunteers were in the service today.
