REFORM OF BRITISH PUBLIC SCHOOLS

(Rec. 6.30 p.m.) LONDON, June 16. Presenting the estimates to the House of Commons, the President of the Board of Education, Mr R. A. Butler, revealed that an inquiry would shortly be opened into a plan for an extension of boarding school education for those desiring it, irrespective of their means. The Evening Standard says the outcome of Mr Butler’s statement will be a complete reform of the public schools system. Lord Fleming will be chairman of the commission to examine the possibility of amalgamating secondary and public schools in the same districts, extending eligibility for admittance to public schools and a revision of the fees.
