FLAGS OF THE UNITED NATIONS

As a result of the efforts of the women’s branch of the Lady Galway Patriotic Guild, Winton will be one of the towns in New Zealand to display flags of the United Nations. On ascertaining that flags were unprocurable, Mrs N. Metzger, the Mayoress, procured designs of the United States, Chinese and Russian flags and under her supervision exact replicas of the flags were made by the members of the guild. Some idea of the difficulties facing flag makers maye be gained when it is realized that in the flag of the United States no fewer than 96 stars have to be cut (48 to each side) and each pair of stars sewn exactly in the same place on either side. The flags will be on display at the Council Chambers, Winton, today.
