“AWAKE NEW ZEALAND” MEETINGS

“Awake New Zealand” meetings were conducted by the Group 12A Citizens Offence Committee at Tokonui and Waimahaka on Wednesday night. Both meetings were well attended and the speakers received an enthusiastic hearing. It was explained at both meetings what was being done for the Home Guard in the group and an appeal for funds was made. At Waimahaka the sum of £B6/5/6 was collected and a strong committee, with Mr G. E. George as chairman, was appointed to canvass the district. The speakers at this meeting were Messrs P. R. Stewart and N. M. Sandes.

At Tokanui the speakers were Messrs F. Wallis and E. F. Selby and Mr W. H. Sadlier made the appeal for funds. The sum of £lO2 was collected in the hall and a committee was also set up to canvass the district, both for donations and also for scrap metal.
