FRUITGROWERS’ REQUEST GRANTED

(Special) DUNEDIN, January 20. At a meeting of the Otago High Schools Board today letters were received from the Coal Creek Fruitgrowers’ Association and the Teviot Fruitgrowers’ Association asking that in view of the lateness of the fruit season and the shortage of labour they should be enabled to retain the services of secondary school pupils already employed on fruit farms till the end of February. The board viewed the request sympathetically. After discussion it was decided that the board should grant exemption for the month of February to those pupils whom employers regard as necessary for the carrying on of the work.
