N.Z. FARMERS. SEEK INDIES MARKET

BATAVIA, November 20. Mr H. M. Rushworth and Mr A. E. Robinson, chairman and secretary of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union, are making an investigation trip to the Netherlands East Indies on their own initiative to find new markets for New Zealand products and also eventually to effect a barter agreement changing meat and fruit for coffee, kapok, spices, etc. They told reporters New Zealand can offer large quantities of fruit which are now partlv rotting on the trees, while in the Netherlands East Indies and Malaya good apples are almost unobtainable. They claimed that the shipping space between the Netherlands East Indies and New Zealand was not used in the most efficient way. More cargo could be shipped without using more ships. The results of the purely informal talks were hopeful, but final agreement could only be reached through both Governments.
