MANPOWER PROBLEM AND FARMING
SUGGESTED USE OF WAR PRISONERS (P.A.) AUCKLAND, October 13. The opinion that a mistake was being made in not using Italian prisoners was expressed by the chairman of the Auckland Primary Production Committee, Mr R. C. Clark, during a discussion at a meeting today on manpower in relation to farming. He said the objection was sentimental. The meeting passed a resolution suggesting an early meeting between the Primary Production Council and the Ministers of National Service and Labour. It was also resolved that, if found necessary and where practicable, troops from military camps be made available for seasonal farm work.
