TRAINING MECHANICS
SCHOOL OF INSTRUCTION OPENED (P.A.) WELLINGTON, October 13. The Rt. Hon. P. Fraser, the Hons. W. Nash, F. Jones and Adam Hamilton, Major-General E. Puttick and other General Staff officers attended the opening of the new school of instruction at the works of General Motors, Petone, this morning. The staff consists cf six instructors, three from the Army and three provided by the company. The course covers four months and the school is designed to produce 80 skilled mechanics from each course. Mr G. S. Seers, managing director, said the training would give every opportunity to the men to become firstclass and highly-skilled mechanics who would have no difficulty in finding work after the war. Mr Fraser thanked the company for placing its facilities at the country’s disposal to train men who.would play a most important part in keeping the machinery going in support of the fighting forces.
