SOLDIER WELCOMED AT WOODEND
A big crowd gathered in the Woodend Hall to welcome Private Bain Robertson, who has been invalided home from overseas. Mr V. Jordan, the chairman, in welcoming the guest home on behalf of the residents of the district, referred to Private Jordans sei vice for his country. Other speakers were Mrs C. Leith (Farewell Committee), Mrs V. Jordan (Women’s Institute), Mrs R. Ferguson (Red Cross Committee), Mrs C. McKenzie (W.D.F.U.), Mr C. Stroud and Mr A. Low. A welcome was also extended to Mr and Mrs Robertson, parents of the guest of honour, and Mrs Leith presented Mrs Robertson with a shoulder spray. During the evening dancing was held. Mr T. Hurd supplied the music for the dance and items were given by Mr J. Downey and Master Burtenshaw.
