ANNUAL REPORT “It is with deep regret that we record the loss of two of our most esteemed members, Pilot Officer W. S. Williams and Sergeant-Pilot J. B. Courtis, who gave their lives for their country, and to the relations the club extends its deepest sympathy,” says the annual report of the Oreti Surf LifeSaving Club, which will be presented at the annual meeting this evening. During the season much valuable work had been carried out in the matter of giving instruction, and as a result 14 members attained their surf medallions, and two .members were awarded surf instructors’ certificates, which spoke for itself. The pilot Officer Wyclif Williams,, R.A.F. Cup, which was presented to the club for annual competition between aging,” concluded the report. St. Clair clubs by Mr Williams in memory of his son, Wyclif, was won for the first time in thrilling competition by Oreti. The team was as follows: W. C. Ronalds, W. Bath, P. L. Cowie, A. T. Mair, B. M. Phillips, and J. A. Grace. The Kingsland Memorial Shield and the Green Cup were both won by a team of juniors in fine style in a spectacular event. The wining team consisted of J. A. Grace (captain), W. Bath, B. M. Phillips and W. Chalmers. “Although the ranks of the club are seriously depleted because of the large number of members serving overseas, and further members undergoing territorial training, the committee is determined to carry on with the knowledge that the remaining members will rise to the occasion by making sacrifices.
