SUCCESSFUL MISSION CONCLUDES
IMPRESSIVE SERVICES AT BASILICA Impressive services at the Basilica, Tyne street, on Sunday marked the completion of a month’s mission in the Invercargill parish. Three Masses held in the morning were largely attended and special services for women in the afternoon and men in the evening were conducted before large congregations by the Rev. Fathers Dennehy and Cahill of the Redemptorist Order. Speaking at the close of the service after having delivered a sermon on the three essentials for a Christian life—prayer, regular reception of the Sacraments of God’s Church and avoidance of the occasion of sin— Father Cahill expressed appreciation of the fine response parishioners had made to the requirements of the mission by regular attendance and wholehearted co-operation. Father Cahill also referred to the necessity of living a full Christian life in these troublous days and of demonstrating the strength of the faith in Christ’s teaching. He also expressed the thanks of the missioners to all who had given assistance so readily in many directions and had made their activities in the parish so enjoyable. The missioners are now visiting the country centres in Southland, Father McCormick being in the Riverton parish and Father Lennon at Winton. (
