CHINESE CHILDREN DROWNED
(United Press Association) AUCKLAND, February 22. Fears that three Chinese children were drowned in the Tamaki river near Otahuhu early last evening were confirmed this morning when the body of one of the children was discovered. The children were Jimmie Len, aged 14/ Johnny Len, aged 10, and Margaret Len, aged 8. Their father is Long Len, formerly of Paeroa, who has been in Auckland for the last few months and is at present living at the market gardens at East Tamaki. Late yesterday afternoon the children went towards the river, which is close by, presumably to bathe. Later, a Maori woman saw them in a small boat which was being carried downstream on an ebbing tide. When the children did not return home at dark the father and other Chinese instituted a search which was unsuccessful and then informed the Otahuhu police. A further search this morning revealed the capsized boat and this was responsible for the finding of Johnny Len’s body.
