LOCAL BODY ELECTIONS
The report from Wellington that Labour circles have been discussing a postponement of the municipal elections is not regarded seriously in Christchurch. No move to have the elections postponed (states the Press) has been made by the Labour Party in Christchurch. A suggestion has been made that the Wellington proposal for a postponement came from the industrial side of the Labour movement. That is not accepted, and it is pointed out that if any criticism of the party has been made so far it has come from the industrial groups. The point is also made that the consensus of opinion of local bodies throughout the country was against the postponement of the local body elections this year, and that the Otago Harbour Board is the only elected body which has since proposed reconsideration of the Government’s acceptance of the overwhelming decision of local bodies.
