Douglas John Higham, aged 12, living at 61 St. Andrew’s street, was knocked off his bicycle while on his way to school yesterday morning. He was admitted to the Southland Hospital suffering from head injuries. YOUNG WOMAN DROWNED WHILE SWIMMING (United Press Association) WELLINGTON, February 10. Caught by the undertow while bathing at Raumati south on Sunday afternoon, a young woman was carried out to sea and drowned. The victim was Eileen Murray, single, aged 21, who lived with her parents at Seatoun, Wellington. Miss Murray was one of four young women who went swimming in the heavy surf raised by a westerly gale. The tide was ebbing and the four found themselves in difficulties. All were good swimmers, Miss Murray being the strongest. Her companions struggled ashore believing that she was following. When it was seen that Miss Murray was being carried seawards, the others raised the alarm. Rescuers used ropes in an effort to reach Miss Murray who, however, disappeared from sight. No trace of the body has yet been found.
