FLYING FORTRESS CRASHES ON MOUNTAINSIDE

MONTREAL, February 7. A message from Lovelock (Nevada) reports that an army flying fortress loaded with secret equipment for research into means to reduce the hazards of Arctic flying, crashed on a mountainside killing the crew of eight. Previous to its departure the aeroplane had been heavily guarded at the Army depot at Sacramento because of sabotage rumours. Officials are puzzled why it crashed on a 1000 feet peak when it was supposedly engaged in a 19,000 feet flight, nonstop, to Denver. A sister aeroplane crashed in California last December.
