PROFIT OF £219 ON YEAR’S WORKING

WYNDHAM TROTTING CLUB’S SEASON

“The profit on the year’s working was £219/17/9. Out of this amount £5O was donated to patriotic purposes and £5 written off as depreciation, leaving a balance carried forward of £164/17/9,” states the annual report of the Wyndham Trotting Club. “The weather for the annual meeting was excellent, although before the meeting inclement conditions had been experienced. The gate receipts, due no doubt to the number of days of racing at that period of the year and petrol restrictions, showed a decrease from £438 to £3Bl/5/-. The totalizator turnover increased from £14,994 to £15,252. Nominations and acceptances increased from £463 to £5Bl/9/-. The nominations and acceptances from the Juvenile Classic entries practically liquidated the 'stakes in this popular event.” The Trotting Cup was won by Cross Bros.’ Gold Bank, who put up a creditable performance from the back mark. The Juvenile Classic race was again a feature of the club's programme, and resulted in a field of high-class young pacers competing. The winner was Mr L. S. Dawson’s Rey Chimes, who completed the distance in creditable time. These events were now established attractions and were invaluable to the trotting sport. It had been advocated in some quarters that racing should be abandoned during the war period, but the committee was of the definite opinion that.it should be continued, and although the club would be racing under-altered conditions, the executive felt confident that the meeting could be conducted with at the worst a balancing of accounts. The retiring officials were as follows: President, Mr J. Hunter; vice-presi-dents, Messrs W. McDonald, J. McGlinchey and T. Mawdsley; committee, Messrs E. J. Traynor, F. Milne, J. Woods, W. Irvine and H. Hunter. Mr O. Baird, a sitting member, had resigned his seat, and a further vacancy had been caused through the death of the late Mr D, Tither. Messrs G. G, Sutherland and D. N. A. Macpherson had been nominated to the committee

and Mr W. Irvine had been nominated as vice-president. As only the required number had ■ been nominated, they would be declared duly elected.
