PRICE OF SUGAR TO BE SUBSIDIZED

GOVERNMENT TO FIND SUM OF £63,000 (From Our Parliamentary Reporter) WELLINGTON, July 17. An announcement that the Government would have to find the sum of £63,000 during the next three months to subsidize the price of sugar, so as not to lift the price to the consumer, was made by the Minister of Finance (the Hon. W. Nash) in the House this evening.

Mr Nash said they were faced with a fairly substantial increase in the price of sugar, and it had been decided to find the difference between the old price and the new. That was exclusively for the benefit of sugar users.

“I would be happy,” added the Minister, “if they could use less sugar.”
