QUEEN CARNIVAL NEARING END

ARMY PRINCESS LEADING The queen carnival which is at present being conducted in aid of the patriotic fund is to close on July 31 and no amounts will be credited after midnight on that day. The crowning ceremony will take place in the Civic Theatre on' both the afternoon and evening of Thursday, August 22, and Friday, August 23, making four ceremonies in all. The four sessions are being provided to enable all sections of the community to attend. The session on Friday will enable many country persons and their children to be present and it is hoped that both young and old will make the most of the opportunity. For the afternoon session on both days children will be admitted at a reduced price, and because of the term holidays it is expected that there will be large attendances. The Queen Carnival Committee held a meeting yesterday and later met the women’s committee. The women have been working very hard for the various princesses and they were congratulated on the excellent results achieved. The three princesses are running very closely for top position and it is expected that when the result is known the winning princess will have a lead of a very small margin. The flags on H. and J.
