TRAINER FINED £20

INTOXICATION CHARGE (United Press Association) AUCKLAND, July 17. Arrested at Otahuhu last evening, David John Burgess, aged 35, the crosscountry jockey and trainer pleaded guilty in the Police Court to being intoxicated while in charge of a motorcar. The police said that a constable saw Burgess leave a hotel slightly intoxicated and drive off in a motor-car. A doctor certified him as being unfit to drive. The defending counsel, Mr Terry, said that the degree of intoxication was slight. The condition of Burgess was due more to pathological factors than to alcohol. In a fall at the June meeting at Ellerslie he sustained concussion and was a long time under medical attention. The Magistrate (Mr J. Morling) said that, in the circumstances, he would imposd”a fine of £2O and cancel the licence for 12 months.
