SECOND ROUND DRAW FOR WAIAU COMPETITION The draw for the second round of matches in the Waiau Basketball Association’s competitions is as follows, the first-mentioned team being the travelling team: — A GRADE July 6.—Country Day tournament, at Invercargill. July 13.—Tuatapere v. Pukemaori; Papatotara v. Clifden. July 20.—Clifden v. Tuatapere; Pukemaori v. Papatotara. July 27.—Tuatapere v. Papatotara; Pukemaori v. Clifden. B GRADE July 6.—Pukemaori v. Tuatapere; Clifden v. Western Star; Orepuki, a bye. July 13—Clifden v. Tuatapere; Western Star v. Orepuki; Pukemaori, a bye. July 20.—Tuatapere v. Western Star; Orepuki v. Pukemaori; Clifden, a bye. July 27. —Orepuki v. Clifden; Western Star v. Pukemaori; Tuatapere, a bye. August 3—Orepuki v. Tuatapere; Pukemaori v. Clifden; Western Star, a bye. WAIAU COMPETITION GAMES The final matches in the first round of the Waiau basketball competitions were played on Saturday and resulted as follows: —Papatotara 22 beat Tuatapere B 16, Pukemaori A 22 beat Clifden 9, Tuatapere A 38 beat Orepuki 8, Pukemaori B 15 beat Western Star 11.
The match between Papatotara and Tuatapere B was played at Tuatapere. The home team, with a handicap of 7, led at halftime by 13-7. Papatotara did not show its usual dash, and the Tuatapere team played well. Papatotara’s shooting was inaccurate in the first half but improved during the second half.
The following players are asked to attend practice on the Tuatapere courts at 2 p.m. on Saturday:—B. McKay, S. Dixon, B. Charlton, E. Mclntyre, M. McKenzie, I. Knowler, B. McLeod, G. Simms, A. Fahey, W. Rowley, M. Morrison, W. Crozier (Clifden); N. Young, Mrs Dunnage (Orepuki); I. Wyeth, M. Rabbitt, A. Rohan (Western Star). Those unable to attend practice or travel to Invercargill on July 6 are asked to notify the selectors.
MENZIES COMPETITION DRAW
The following is the draw for the second round of the A grade basketball competition in the Menzies Association, home teams being mentioned first: June 22.—Mataura Island v. Menzies Ferry; Seaward Downs v. Wyndham; Edendale v. Glenham; Gorge Road a bye. June 29.—Edendale v. Seaward Downs; Gorge Road v. Mataura Island; Wyndham v. Glenham; Menzies Ferry a bye.
