IMPORT CONTROL REGULATIONS
REPRESENTATIONS TO BE MADE TO MINISTER
(United Press Association) WELLINGTON, April 23. A conference of importing and allied interests was held in Wellington today to discuss and formulate questions affecting the Import Control Regulations. It was decided to make representations to the Minister of Customs (the Hon. W. Nash). A deputation consisting of delegates from the various importing associations and trade federations represented at the conference will wait on the Minister tomorrow. Mr Gaynor Jackson, Auckland, President of the Bureau of Importers, presided at the conference, and with Mr G. W. Guthrie, president of the New Zealand Importers Federation, and Mr E. A. Christie president of the United Kingdom Manufacturers’ New Zealand Representatives’ Association, will act as spokesmen at the meeting with the Minister. The conference discussed at length various aspects of the Import Control Regulations, particularly the new situation created since the outbreak of war. The effect of the Minister’s decision about the discontinuance of . licences on the no-remittance basis and the effect on trade and employment, Customs and sales tax revenue, was considered, as well as the Finance Emergency Regulations 1940, and the embargo on dealings outside the exchange market.
