“LOSS OF A TRUE CITIZEN”

TRIBUTES TO MEMORY OF MR G T. STEVENS Tributes to the memory of Mr George T. Stevens, who died on Monday, were paid yesterday by various social bodies with whom he had been associated. At the weekly luncheon of the Invercargill Rotary Club members stood in silence and a resolution of sympathy with Mrs Stevens was carried. “With the passing of Mr Stevens Invercargill has lost a true citizen,” said the president of the Rotary Club (Mr J. D. Campbell). Mr Stevens had done much for the city and the province. As a'’Rotarian he would be missed for he had been one of the those cheerful persons whose willingness to do whatever they could to advance the interests of Rotary was such a valuable spirit in a club. The meeting was adjourned as a mark of respect to Mr Stevens’s memory. Reference to Mr Stevens’s death was made at the meeting of the Southland High Schools' Board. Mr Stevens was a member of the board about 25 years ago. A resolution of sympathy with his relations was carried. At a meeting of the Southland Bowling Centre last night a resolution of sympathy was carried. Mr Stevens was a Southland representative bowler for several years and he was president of the Centre in 1929.
