GUN-DOG TRIALS IN BAD WEATHER

CLUB CHAMPIONSHIPS ON SATURDAY

The Southland Gun Dog Club held its championship trials at West Plains yesterday in very unfavourable weather. There was a fair attendance of the public which was treated to an excellent display of gun dog work. The winner of the puppy class was Mr C. A. Kerse’s Labrador, Bruce, with the high score' of 97 points. The winner of the novice class was Mr M. Pasco’s Labrador, Zeda, who lost only two points, being also runner-up in the puppy class. The club championship was won by Mr T. Pasco’s curly coated retriever, Major, who gave an excellent all-round display in all sections. The judges were Mr P. Hennessey (puppy class), Mr G. L. McKenzie (novice class) and Mr A. G. Fraser (championship). The official guns, Messrs Broad Brothers and J. B. Pasco, shot well under trying conditions. The following are the detailed results:
