FALL OF STEEL AND TIMBER

TRUSS SUPPORTING ARCH OF WHENUAPAI HANGAR

(United Press Association)

AUCKLAND, December 2. Caught by a strong gust of wind, five tons of steel and three tons of timber scaffolding forming a temporary truss supporting an arch of the hangar under construction at the Whenuapai aerodrome blew over on Saturday afternoon. The actual damage. is regarded as relatively light. The steel work has been used before as a truss and it will be used several times again in the building of the aerodrome. Some of this steel was slightly twisted by the fall but this is a defect that it is considered can be remedied in a day. The re-erection of the truss is likely to take less than a week.

No one was in the vicinity at the time of the fall, operations being suspended on Saturday because of the high winds and rain. Had work been carried out on Saturday it is stated that the scaffolding would have been "tied” to similar timbering and the accident could not have occurred.
