GIANT WAPITI HEAD AT EXHIBITION
ADDED ATTRACTION AT SOUTHLAND COURT
(Special to The Times) WELLINGTON, December 2.
The giant wapiti head shot in Glasenock Valley 18 months ago by Mr F. W. Furkert, of .Wellington, now hangs opposite Mr E. J. Herrick’s moose head in'the Southland reception room at the Exhibition, where the massive antlers 58 inches long attracted the attention of numerous sportsmen on Saturday. One of the biggest trophies ever shot anywhere in the world, the magnificent bull elk which bore the head was shot from a treetop at a long’ range during an expedition, accompanied by Messrs Sutton and Gardner. Another attractive addition to the contents of the room, which is becoming a regular Southland rendezvous, is the beautiful Southland beech radio cabinet, which plays news ’and programmes from southern stations and greatly enhances the popularity of this attractive court. Hie organizer, Mr C. S. Mackay, stated yesterday that he contemplates visiting Invercargill soon to arrange for special functions and added attractions to increase the interest taken in the court.
