Hudson (Christchurch) beaMiss Claire Smith (Invercargill) 1 up in the final of the womens open tournament which was concluded at. the Shirley links this afternoon. A. puttin o prize was won by Mrs F. G. Hall-Jones the semi-finals played Miss N. Mor- £ rish (Rangiora), 6 and 5. I Miss Hudson beat Miss C. Holmes (Rakaia), 3 and 1. - o Miss Morrish lost a ball at the fiist x hole and was out of bounds at the u fourth. Miss Smith played well, going out in 39 and being 4 up at the turn. She increased her lead by winning the a tenth, but lost the eleventh. The match ■. ended at the thirteenth when Miss Smith scored a birdie 2. In the final between Miss Smith ana Miss Hudson, the Invercargill player lost the first hole and the next four were halved. The match was evened at the sixth, but Miss Smith lost the next c three in a row and was 3 down at the *■ turn. She went out in 41 and Miss Hudson in 38. , , j f The next three holes were halved. * Miss Smith won the thirteenth, lost the 1 fourteenth and won the fifteenth. At the long sixteenth Miss Hudson’s drive landed beside a small tree just off the , fairway and that cost her a stroke. She lost the hole and her lead was reduced to 1 up. The next two holes were halved in bogey fours, giving Miss Hudson the match. The junior handicap was won by Mrs J N. E. Tingey (Christchurch), who beat Mrs H. H. Wauchop (Christchurch) in 1 the final. , At the end of the tournament the trophies were presented by Mrs E. S. Vernon, president of the Christchurch Ladies’ Golf Club. QUEEN’S PARK LADIES’ CLUB CHAMPIONSHIP FINALS

The finals of the Queen’s Park Ladies’ Golf Club’s championships have now been played, Mrs G. E. Glennie, beating Mrs D. W. Robinson by 3 and 2 in the A grade and Mrs E. J. Salisbury defeating Miss I. Russell in the B grade. A consolation competition for B grade players was won by Mrs A. St. C. Macgregor, who defeated Mrs R. Littlejohn by 7 and 6. In the C grade final Mrs A. Hamilton beat Mrs A. Young by 4 and 2. . Mrs Glennie and Mrs Robinson halved the first four holes in the A grade final, the former taking the lead when she won the fifth. She also had wins in bogey figures at the seventh and ninth and was 3 up at the turn. Mrs Robinson had her first win at the tenth and reduced her opponent’s lead to one at the twelfth. A good 5 won the next for Mrs Glennie, then Mrs Robinson retaliated by taking the fourteenth with a bogey 5. Two more halves followed, after which Mrs Glennie scored a birdie 2 at the seventeenth and a bogey 5 at the last hole and won them both. She was thus 3 up at the end of the morning round, which she did in 88 to her opponent’s 91. Mrs Glennie began the afternoon round with a win and was 4 up. Playing good golf, they halved the second and third, and when Mrs Glennie slipped a stroke at the fourth she lost the hole. Fives halved Tapper’s, then Mrs I Glennie became 4 up again with a win in 4 to 6 at the sixth. She was playing well at this stage and was giving nothing away. She reached the turn in 43 and was in the strong position of 5 up and 9 to play. Mrs Robinson seized an opening at the tenth to gain a muchneeded win, but lost opportunities at the next two (bogey 3 holes), both of which were halved in two over bogey. Mrs Glennie’s lead came back to 3 up when Mrs Robinson got a 5 at the thirteenth and to 2 up when the latter holed Poplars in 5. Mrd Glennie finished the match with a sound 4 at the sixteenth.
