SCHOOL CONCERT The Hedgehope Hall was packed for the Hedgehope School concert. The concert took the form of a children’s hour, broadcasted and televised. The announcers were Elva Denoon and Thomas Highsted. The programme was as follows:—Songs, “I Love to Whistle,” and “Waltzing Matilda,” choral speaking, “A Canadian Folk Song,” senior girls; song, with bagpipe introduction, “The Road to the Isles;” riddles, Dorothy Jukes and Gordon Denoon; song, “Stay in Your Own Back Yard,” June Horton, Maurice Skinner; song, “The Lincolnshire Poachers” (poachers, Horace Lee, John Wilson and Ernest Mcßae; the gamekeeper, Roland McEachern); a playette, “Red Riding Hood,” Leith Beck, Bil± Stewart, Rhona Barber, Grace Highsted, Eric Jukes, Daisy Mackay; nursery rhymes, juniors; “Awkward squard,” sergeant, Fraser Sanderson; play, “The Gold Diggers,” R. MacEachern, Bill Gimblett, F. McDowall, G. Denoon and C. Macdonald; recitation, “Mulga Bill,” T. Highsted; drill display, Maze marching, seniors; ‘Tufty tufty” dance, juniors; recitation, “My Penny,” Fay Lamont; cobblers dance and songs, juniors; “Ten Pretty Girls,” dances, salaams and songs, pupils; songs, “The Fairy Artist,” “The Raindrops,” “The Bird in Our Old Gum Tree,” “Spring Song,” juniors; Maytime scene, swing songs and recitations; “Little Boy Blue,” Flora Macdonald; “Adsum,” Fraser Sanderson; “The Soldier Boy,” Bill Stewart; lecture on physical culture, Gwen Highsted; wrestling exhibition, Fleming McDowall, Roland McEachern, lan Mcßae, lan Sanderson, Horace Lee and Keith Bunn, assisted by officials of the Hedgehope Wrestling Club; verse speaking, “The Panama Gang,” senior girls, in costume, Dorothy Jukes and Jean Mackay, Isobel McEachern, Gwen Highsted, June Hor- I ton, Isobel Murchison and Nancy Mur- I chison; recitation, “A Funny Man,” lan Mcßae; Maori items, in costume, pupils; I closing melody, “Now ’Tis the Hour,” pupils. j
At the conclusion of the concert, the chairman of the School Committee, Mr C. O. Bridgeman, congratulated the teachers and the children on their successful and most enjoyable production. Piper N. Mclntyre, he said; gave valuable assistance.
Mr C. P. Beck, the head teacher, replied, thanking the children for their co-operation and the audience for the appreciation it had shown of the pupils’ efforts.
An enjoyable dance was held later. Mr J. Sanderson was master of ceremonies, and music was supplied by Misses C. Leabody, Noeline Young and Mr N. Mclntyre.
