NORTHEND CLUB’S MEETING SELECTION OF SOUTHLAND TEAMS CRITICIZED Reference to the good recovery of the financial position of the club after showing a debit balance the year before was made by speakers at the annual meeting of the Northend Bowling Club last night. “The report and balance-sheet speaks for itself,” said the chairman (Mr C. J. McEachran) when moving the adoption of the report. The green had made a good recovery and the improvement effected in the last two seasons reflected much credit on the work'qf the former green ranger, Mr J. Ure, and Mr T. D. Pearce, who took over the ■ office of green ranger late in the season, he added. The club did not gain much success in the club competitions, but it fulfilled engagements and in spite of the wet season had enjoyed its bowls.

The report and balance-sheet were adopted. A motion that the green ranger be appointed at a general meeting of the club to be held in February of each year was carried. The following office-bearers were elected:—

President, Mr W. Randle: vice-presi-dents, Messrs A. C. Millar and J. Greer; secretary, Mr S. C. K. Smith; treasurer, Mr J. Hannan; green ranger, Mr T. D. Pearce; selectors, Messrs S. C. K. Smith, T. Snow and J. A. Wesney; stewards, 'Messrs A. C. Millar and A. McMurdo; auditor, Mr C. E. Hannah; delegates to the annual meeting of the Southland Bowling Centre, Messrs T. D. Pearce and A. C. Millar; general committee, Messrs D. M. Scandrett, J. Gillanders, J. McMullan, W. H. Birch and T. Stocker. RECOMMENDATIONS Recommendations to be placed before the annual meeting of delegates of the Southland Bowling Centre were adopted as follows:— “That the centre competitions held on Tuesday nights be abolished and that four-rink championship and interclub competitions be held on Saturdays. “That the constitution of the Southland Bowling Centre be altered so as to make provision for the inclusion of the Southland representative of the New Zealand Bowling Council on the management committee of the centre.” It was agreed to hold a rink championship in conjunction with the club competitions, the winning rink to represent the club in the annual shield rink championship of Southland. Criticism of the selection of Southland teams selected to play against Otago in Harraway Shield matches was made by members, who expressed dissatisfaction with the selections of the past few years. It was agreed to instruct the delegates to the centre to express the club’s dissatisfaction and also to suggest that in future the centre invite clubs to submit nominations of players suitable for selection in the teams. A motion to increase the subscription of club members W'as defeated.
