WOMAN SENT TO PRISON
CHARGE OF BREAKING, ENTERING AND THEFT (United Press Association) NEW PLYMOUTH, May 25. “I am very sorry that I must in the public interests and your own interests impose a sentence on you that will take away your liberty for some time,” said Mr Justice Ostler in the Supreme Court when sentencing Hilda Elizabeth Cresswell to two years’ reformative detention on a charge of breaking, entering and the theft of money and clothing valued at £6/10/-. She pleaded guilty in the Magistrate’s Court on Monday. “Your whole trouble,” continued his Honour, “is caused by a craving for drink which comes upon you.”
