WORRYING OF SHEEP BY DOGS

INTENSIVE HUNTS BY FARMERS (United Press Association) HASTINGS, May 25. After intensive hunts at night by farmers in the Havelock North district, a pack of dogs believed to be responsible for the deaths of approximately 120 sheep and the damaging of hundreds more in the past three months were brought to bay early this morning. Three dogs were found worrying. A large collie was shot. The others, a crossbred Airedale and a sporting retriever, were caught in the afternoon and shot.

The depredations of these dogs have meant considerable losses to farmers in the district. The heaviest individual loss was 56 sheep, 21 of these being lost in one night.
