CITY PARKING REGULATIONS
FIRST OFFENDERS PROSECUTED
OBSTRUCTION OF BUS STANDS
The first prosecutions for breaches of the new parking regulations in Invercargill were heard in the Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
“There are a number of these cases today,” said the chief traffic inspector, Mr E.~ Stopford, who prosecuted. “The traffic department has done what it can to help motorists in the new regulations, but because of the abuse of the regulation covering bus stands it has been decided to bring offenders before the Court. We are not asking for penalties but we hope these cases will serve as a warning to others.’
The Magistrate (Mr R. C. Abernethy) : I presume the bus stops are sufficiently marked. The inspector: Yels. The areas are marked and there are signs on the street posts. Mr J. G. Imlay, who appeared on behalf of one of the defendants, said that he had seen many cars parked on an area which was marked as a bus stand but which had ceased for some time to be a stand. It was very confusing to motorists, he added.
