OTAUTAU
MINIATURE RIFLE CLUB REVIEW OF SUCCESSFUL SEASON There was a good attendance of members at the annual meeting of the Otautau Miniature Rifle Club. Dr W. B. Reekie presided. The balance-sheet was read, showing a debit of £1 12/6. In his report the president stated that the club had a successful season, starting from behind scratch and finishing with a small credit balance. To offset this there was an outstanding account. They had the support of no fewer than 60 members. When the club first started they had an equal number of members from town and country, but for various reasons the attendance from the latter had diminished somewhat. When the seasonal work was less busy he hoped to see a keenly-contested teams’ match between town and country. It had been suggested that women be admitted as members during the coming' season. Thanks to the successful year the club had assets totalling about £3O. Last year they had several successful competitions and the standard of shooting was good. They were unfortunate to lose their most active member and best shot, Mr L. Nichol, who had been transferred to Christchurch. With him out of the way the president had a very successful season. The programme of competitions would probably be similar to last year’s, and it was hoped there would be an added inducement to compete for the president’s trophy. The report concluded by stating that the success of the club in the future depended on its membership. The report and balance-sheet were adopted. The election of officers resulted as follows: Patron, Mr J. Thomson, sen.; president, Dr Reekie; vice-presidents, Messrs H. Braxton, R. M. Broomfield and L. Thwaites; Joint secretaries, Messrs Harold Smyth and J. C. Macdonnell; club captain, Mr H. Braxton; deputy-club captain, Mr R. M. Broomfield; selector, Dr Reekie: committee, office-bearers, ex officio, Messrs J. H. Mills, W. B. O’Toole and A. S. James; arms officer, Mr E. J. Leckie; auditor, Mr J. von Tunzelman; delegates to Southland Association, Messrs H. Braxton and A. S. James; protest committee, any three non-interested mebers of the committee; official testers, the secretary and his assistant. The president’s offer to give a trophy was accepted with thanks. It was decided that the shooting charge be the same as last year, and that a trophy to the value of 2/6 be given each evening to the A and B grade alternately. Opening night was fixed for Tuesday, March 21, with 10 free shots, and it was decided to invite sister clubs. It was decided that the R.S.A. Club be invited to return a visit as soon as possible.
