NEW RACIAL LAWS IN ITALY
MARRIAGE DECREE CAUSES PAPAL PROTEST, (Received November 11, 9.40 p.m.) LONDON, November 11. It is semi-officially stated that the Vatican is protesting against a new Italian racial law forbidding marriages between Aryans and other races, which is regarded as a violation of the Lateran Treaty under which Italy recognizes the legality of all marriages celebrated by members of a religious order, says the Rome correspondent of the British United Press. The following new racial laws have been promulgated: (1) Aryan Italians are forbidden to marry non-Aryans. (2) The Home Office must consent to the marriage of an Italian and a foreigner. (3) Civil servants, members of the Fascist Party, trade union officials, and public administrators are forbidden, without exception, to marry foreigners.
