BUDGE BECOMES A PROFESSIONAL
GUARANTEE OF £15,000 FOR YEAR’S PLAY (Received November 11. 11.10 p.m.) NEW YORK, November 10. Mr Walter Pate, chairman of the American Davis Cup Committee, announced that J. D. Budge, the world’s foremost singles player, had turned professional. Mr Pate added that Budge had been guaranteed 75,000 dollars (about £15,000) for a year’s play, with the option of taking a percentage of the receipts from a tom’ of the United States.
