ITALIAN MIGRATION TO LIBYA
FESTIVAL SCENES AT THREE PORTS (Received October 28, 8.50 p.m.) GENOA, October 27. Preceded by a triumphal procession through decorated streets, one of the largest migrations in history will begin when the Vulcania, with the Governor of Libya (Marshal Italo Balbo) aboard —the first of 20 ships taking 20,000 settlers to Libya—sails from Genoa tomorrow—the anniversary of the fascist March on Rome. Thirty special trains are converging on Genoa, Naples and Syracuse, the three ports of departure from Italy and Sicily. They bring 1800 families, averaging nearly 10 children apiece. Food and clothing are being issued to the adults and toys to the children. The men will march to the wharf six abreast and the women and children will ride in motors.
Signor Mussolini will review the argosy at sea. The Rome correspondent of The Daily Telegraph states that Marshal Balbo says that the 20,000 will be increased to 500,000 within 10 years, when all the available land would be intensively cultivated.
