CHILDREN TO SEE EXHIBITION

PROPOSAL BY SOUTHLAND EDUCATION BOARD A decision to ask the Minister of Education to make provision for school children in distant areas to see the New Zealand Centennial Exhibition was made by the Southland Education Board at its meeting yesterday. Mr J. Hargest introduced the matter and said he thought arrangements should be made for Southland school children to see the exhibition. “There will be a good lot of South-, 'and money in the exhibition,” he said, “and I think the children should be provided for." The chairman (Mi- S. Rice) agreed with the suggestion. He said that provision of transport should be made for the senior pupils. Mr Hargest added that the visit of children from schools in outlying districts should be during the c-hool period. In the holidays the Wellington school children would rush the exhibition and there would be congestion.

“I think we should do this for our children,” said Mr Hargest. “In Wellington the school children get privileges in the way of the use of school buses to bring the children in to see Parliament, and the exhibition would provide an opportunity for the department tv do something for school children in outlying districts.” It was agreed to communicate with the Minister about the proposal.
