WOMEN’S DIVISION
WYNDHAM BRANCH
There was a fair attendance at the monthly meeting of the Wyndham branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union. Mrs C. F. Hunter presided. A letter was received from the Blind Institute at Auckland asking members if they would assist by selling a quantity of articles made by blind people. It was decided to write and suggest that the institute try to arrange a stall at the A. and P. Show on December 10, when members would assist in every way possible. The president reported that the Minister’s Association was again bringing the old people of Gore to Wyndham, and that they would be entertained at afternoon tea at the home of Mrs C. E. Davey on Saturday, November 26. It was decided that members should assist with afternoon tea, and that members of the Town Board and their wives should be invited to take part. It was decided to invite members of neighbouring branches to attend the birthday party on November 24. For next meeting the competitions are: Best bloom .'and best novelty article made from mate Hal costing not more than 2/-. t The day’s competitions were won as follows: Best bloom: Miss Marsh 1, Mrs T. A. Robinson 2, Mrs R. G. Carson 3. Darning: Mrs R. G. Carson 1, Mrs T. A. Robinson 2.
EDENDALE BRANCH There was a good attendance at the meeting of the Edendale branch of the Women’s Division of. the Farmers’ Union. ‘The roll-call was a competition, “Peeling a potato blindfolded,” the winner being Miss Tither. Mrs R. Fyfe gave a demonstration on making wood pulp flowers. The results of the competitions were:—Tulip: Mrs J. Lamont 1, Mrs T. Hickey 2, Mrs A. Townley 3. Knitted article: Mrs Rewcastle 1, Mrs G. Warren 2, Miss A. Dobbie 3. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames W. Irvine, D. Waters and D. Caldwell and Miss H. Craig. WALLACETOWN BRANCH At the monthly meeting of the Wallacetown branch of the Women’s Division of the Farmers’ Union, Mrs J. Gray presided over a big attendance. The roll call was “Hints on Gardening.” Competition results:—Vase of spring flowers: Mrs J. Young 1, Miss Hawkes 2, Mrs G. Gray and Mrs L. Young 3 eq. Best bloom: Mrs Jolly 1, Miss McGeady 2, Mrs Kynaston 3. Miss Linda Ronald gave a demonstration on the making of silk toilet mats.
