The function was honoured by the presence of the Hon. P. C Webb, Minister of Mines, and the president of the Pukemaori Club, Mr W. Blakie, after introducing Mr Webb, asked him to present the Rillstone Cup, the symbol of basketball supremacy in the Waiau district, to the winning team. The Minister thanked those present for the warm welcome extended to him, and gave a talk on sport and its place in the game of life. He stressed the
value of healthy outdoor exercise and deprecated the false value often placed on the winning. of a trophy. Nevertheless, he continued, some individual or team had to be successful, and it was greatly to the credit of the Pukemaori girls that they had achieved a standard of fitness and co-operation high enough to bring them success. Mr Webb congratulated the team and presented the cup to Miss V. King, the club captain, in the absence through illness of Miss A. Whyte, the team captain. Miss King replied acknowledging the assistance of the past and present coaches of the team.
A vote of thanks to Mr Webb was carried by acclamation.
